What is 3D Secure?

All TSB customers with a Debit or Credit card automatically receive extra security via 3D Secure when shopping online. You don't need to do anything to set this up, you have it automatically.

Usually you don’t notice this added security, however sometimes when you purchase things online that are a higher value or out of character for you, another screen will appear which asks for some extra information. This is information that only you would know. If you cannot provide the information the transaction may be declined.


Why do we need your mobile number?

Security enhancements have been developed for 3D Secure which involve a verification code being sent via a text message to your mobile phone. You then input this code into the browser to confirm it's you using your card as an extra security check. To ensure you're set up to receive these text messages, please make sure TSB holds your current mobile phone number. You can check via the ‘My Profile’ section of TSB online banking and mobile app, visiting any TSB branch or by calling us on 0800 872 226.
