When you retire

You can access your KiwiSaver savings at the age of eligibility for New Zealand Superannuation (currently 65). If you’re over 60 when you first join KiwiSaver, you can access your KiwiSaver savings after five years. There are a few options available for managing your money in retirement. You can:

Withdraw all of your savings
You can choose to withdraw all of your savings in one go. If you do this, your KiwiSaver account will be closed and you won't be able to re-open it.

Keep your savings in your KiwiSaver account
If you don't need your money straight away, you can choose to keep it in your KiwiSaver account. You'll no longer be eligible for the Government's member tax credits and your employer can also choose to stop making contributions.

Set up a regular withdrawal1
Supplement your pension or any other retirement income sources with a regular withdrawal from your KiwiSaver account.

Make lump sum withdrawals at any time1
Keep your money working hard in your KiwiSaver account with the comfort of knowing you can access your funds at any time.
