Protecting your identity
- Never give out your personal information to someone you don’t know or trust.
- Destroy personal information e.g. old account statements or cards.
- Obtain a free credit report at least once a year to make sure no-one is using you name to run up debts. There are two main national credit reporting agencies in New Zealand, Baycorp Advantage and Dun and Bradstreet.
- Always check your bank statements carefully to ensure there are no unauthorised transactions.
