TSB banners transformed into bean bags

A collection of old TSB-branded flags, banners and event materials have been given a new lease of life through a creative sustainability project that has seen them transformed into bean bags for YMCA Taranaki.

Rather than sending the materials to landfill after years in storage, TSB partnered with local creative agency TGM Creative to repurpose them into 17 custom-made bean bags that will now be used by YMCA Taranaki.

Lucy Graydon, Head of Sustainability at TSB, said the project demonstrated how sustainable decisions can impact both the environment and community.

"We had materials that were no longer being used but still had value. Working with TGM Creative allowed us to transform them into something useful that can continue serving the community."

Joanne Dusterhoft, General Manager of YMCA Taranaki, welcomed the donation.

"We're incredibly grateful for this donation. The bean bags will be put to great use in our childcare centre and OSCAR programmes. It's fantastic to see materials that might otherwise have gone to waste given a new purpose, and we appreciate TSB's commitment to both sustainability and the local community."

Andrea Leadbetter, owner of TGM Creative, said TGM was proud to be part of the project.

"Sustainability and creativity are a natural fit. It's rewarding to see those materials begin a completely new chapter with YMCA Taranaki rather than ending up as waste."

The donation coincides with the publication of TSB's first Sustainability Report, which outlines how the bank is supporting people and communities, reducing its environmental impact and strengthening financial resilience across Aotearoa.

Highlights from the Sustainability Report include:

  • More than 1,500 volunteer hours contributed by TSB people in communities across Aotearoa.
  • Continued progress towards TSB's science-aligned goal of reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030.
  • Reducing paper usage through the removal of more than 41,000 printed letters.
  • Partnerships with organisations including Green Loop, Kaicycle and Recycle a Device to support better environmental outcomes.

"Our sustainability vision is about making decisions today that strengthen our communities, support our customers, care for our environment and help create positive outcomes for future generations," says Graydon.
