What a debit card is, and who can apply

A debit card allows you to shop online, in-store and overseas - using your own money. It needs to be linked to a TSB transactional account, so you’ll need to have an existing account, or you can apply to open one.

To apply for a TSB Debit Mastercard you must be 15 years old or over. If you're between 15-17 years old, you’ll need a parent or guardian to sign a paper debit application form that can be found in-branch at your local TSB.

An EFTPOS card is another option, but it can't be used to buy things online.

Monitor your card online

Get set up with online and mobile banking so you can bank on the go. Make payments, keep track of spending, and manage your card all from a mobile, tablet or desktop.

Braille on our cards

To help our vision impaired customers identify which card they’re using, our debit card has ‘TSB D’ printed in braille on it.

Our new debit card has a vertical design, so the braille is printed on the lower left side, to help customers identify the orientation of their card for tapping or inserting the chip.

Dispute a transaction

If you find a transaction on your account that you don’t believe you made, you can dispute it - you have up to 60 days from the transaction date to submit your dispute. You must dispute any domestic EFTPOS and domestic ATM transactions with the relevant merchant.

Temporarily block your card

If you've misplaced your card, you can temporarily block it to stop transactions from being made. Block or unblock your card using Card Manager in online banking or your TSB app. You can also call us on 0800 872 226 or +64 6 968 3700 (international).

Lost or stolen card

If your card is lost or stolen, please let us know by cancelling your card using Card Manager in your online banking or your TSB app. You’ll be able to order a new one at the same time. You can also call us on 0800 406 406 within NZ or +64 6 968 3700 from overseas.
