Before we start, you'll need to:
- Be 18 years old or over.
- Have a valid NZ passport or NZ driver licence.
- Have a NZ mobile phone number.
- Have an email address.
- Be applying for an individual or joint account.
You’ll need to provide some details about yourself, so make sure you have the following handy:
- NZ passport or NZ driver licence
- Tax information
- Mobile phone
Under 18 or don’t have a NZ passport or driver licence?
If you're wanting to open an account for someone under 18, or you don't have a NZ passport or NZ driver licence, you’ll need to send us a message, visit your local branch or call us on 0800 872 226 or +64 6 968 7300 if overseas. We're available 8am-6pm Monday–Friday and 9am-5pm weekends.
What happens next?
Verify your identity
Once you’ve completed the form, we’ll verify your identity and address using our digital ID verification tool and your smartphone.
Set up online banking
Once you’ve been verified, we’ll open your account(s) and get you set up with online banking.
Bring your banking over
When you move to TSB from another bank, we’ll help you bring over your account balance and existing payment instructions. Follow our switching guide to get started.
