Your card helps make life easier – so let's keep it safe. Follow these practical tips to help you feel confident when using ATMs or paying with your card, at home and overseas.

Keeping your TSB card safe

  • Sign the back of your card as soon as you get it.
  • Never share your card or PIN with anyone.
  • Store your card somewhere safe, away from damage and magnetic items like purse clasps or security passes.
  • When your card expires, cut it through the magnetic strip and chip before throwing it out.
  • Always retrieve your card immediately after making a payment.
  • Discard receipts securely after checking them against your account.

Using your card safely

Using your card safely online

When you’re shopping or paying for something online, taking a moment to check the website is secure can help keep your card details safe.

Before entering your card details, make sure you can see:

  • That the business or organisation looks legitimate.
  • A website address that’s spelled correctly (scammers often change just one or two letters).
  • A padlock symbol in the browser bar 🔒.
  • “https://” at the start of the web address — the “s” means the connection is secure.

When travelling overseas

  • Save our contact details before you go (when calling from overseas, our contact number is +64 6 968 3700).
  • Never let your card out of sight – especially overseas.
  • Avoid leaving cards in hotel rooms, beach bags or parked cars.

ATM access for TSB customers

As a TSB customer, you can use:

  • Any NZ bank-branded ATM and any Allpoint or Allpoint+ ATM in NZ for fee-free cash withdrawals and balance checks1.
  • Your TSB EFTPOS card to make cash deposits into a TSB account linked to your EFTPOS card, using a TSB Smart ATM or Allpoint+ ATM.

All TSB ATMs include:

  • An audio plug for headphones or ear buds for spoken instructions.
  • A braille keyboard and command keys for accessibility.

TSB Smart ATMs are available at the following branches:
Botany, Hamilton, Waitara, Bell Block, TSB Centre, Westown, Inglewood, Stratford, Hawera, Wellington, Christchurch.

Using ATMs safely

Be alert

  • Choose ATMs that are well-lit and easy to see.
  • Have your card ready and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Don’t let strangers follow you into enclosed ATM areas.
  • At drive-up ATMs, lock your doors and keep windows up.
  • Don’t leave your car running or unlocked when using an ATM on foot.

Protect your PIN and cash

  • Cover the keypad when entering your PIN.
  • Put your cash, card and receipt away straight away. Count cash later, privately.
  • If something feels off, cancel the transaction and leave.

Using ATMs overseas

  • Use your TSB Debit or Credit Mastercard at any ATM showing the Mastercard logo1.
  • EFTPOS cards don’t work overseas.
  • Withdrawals are in local currency and converted to NZD in your account balance.
  • Daily withdrawal limit: $2,000 NZD (converted). Anything over this may be declined.
  • Overseas ATM fees may apply.
